For Christmas this year, F bought us tickets to see Heartless Bastards at the Southgate House in Covington, KY, just over the river from Cincinnati. Though they originally hail from Cincinnati, the blues-rock quartet has since relocated in Austin, TX, where their music seems to have found its natural fit. But the holidays bring musicians home, too, and that seemed to be on the mind of lead singer Erika Wennerstrom as she took the stage.
“It’s great to be home!” she said.
They played to a sold-out crowd Saturday night, and the smoky, cavernous ballroom was filled shoulder to shoulder with eager fans. Luckily, we got there early enough to stake out a table along the balcony overlooking the stage, and ours was easily one of the best vantage points in the venue.
The band mostly played songs from their newest album, 2009′s “The Mountain,” which has done well to make them famous and has garnered them a lot of due praise, recently.
Below are some of the pictures from the show.
