A story in Saturday’s Columbus Dispatch brought some good news to the end of an already good and productive week. A report published by the Pew Charitable Trusts foundation ranked Ohio 4th in the nation for new, green jobs, with more than 35,000 at the end of 2007. “Job push in clean energy pays off” (6/13).
Ohio trails only California (125,000 jobs), Texas (55,600) and
Pennsylvania (38,700), and is showing growth in the “green collar” sector faster than most states in the midwest.
The announcement was made at a conference held in Cleveland which was organized by Pew. Sen. Sherrod Brown spoke from Washington via conference call about the importance of the study.
“This report confirms Ohio’s position as a leader in clean energy,” Brown said.
This is definitely good news for job-starved Ohio, and particularly good news for Wilmington, where we’re trying to reposition Clinton County as a model for small scale sustainability. This only helps.
